December 19, 2023 – We’re Back at the Hospital…

Last night was not a good night for Brandon. Lots of nose bleeds. Lots and lots of up and down. He didn’t sleep hardly at all. Which meant I didn’t get as much work done as I would like and also I didn’t get hardly any sleep either.

I did make some good progress with the YouTube videos and the website. I still have a lot to do, but I’m making significant progress.

Also my coworkers launched the GoFundMe! Which is exciting. It is up to $540. This does not include offline donations which I will have to have them add. I’m try to have them add the previous donations and I’ll try to start getting the acknowledgements listed on the website. I’ll also try to get a link to the GoFundMe added to the website.

Meanwhile, I called the Pediatric Oncology and left them a message about the nose bleeds. Brit they got the message, they called as scheduled to ask about Brandon’s eating and drinking. By then I was excited to tell them he had drank just shy of 4 bottles or 32 ounces of shake and shit 8 ounces of water. Which was great. I told them about the nose bleeds, which while annoying, where not uncontrollable. They said they felt it was ok to move Thursdays appointment up one day to Wednesday. As long as nothing changed like worse nosebleeds, it should be fine.

About an hour later Brandon said he was very very cold. I thought it was odd so I checked and sure enough he had spiked a fever… 🥺 So we called and left a message with the Pediatric Oncology again. They called back pretty quickly and said go ahead and bring him to the Pediatric Emergency Department. We got here and told them he had an Oncology fever. We were moved to the top of the list and brought into the an ED very quickly. They accessed his port, drew blood for labs, started him on fluids and then gave him some antibiotics. I was checking MyChart for the lab results pretty frequently and they finally came back. I’m no oncologist, but I’m learning what to look for. It looked like febrile neutropenia to me. Which is a critical emergency in which usually a chemo patient, has a fever and is neutropenic. Neutropenic is when neutrophils (a part of the white blood cells) has a very low count. This indicates a very weak immune system. A bit later a Dr came by and acknowledged, that was there case and her would be admitted.

It’s going to be a long night… Again…
